Preaching Ministries

DEFINITION

The Preaching ministry of Redeemer is the specific ministry of the Word that occurs on Sundays in the context of a worship service.

BACKGROUND

We come from a tradition that (rightly) gives a high place to preaching, and explicitly to expository preaching, in the life of the church. However, that preaching has often not connected well with the lives of people. At Redeemer we want preaching to be both true to the Bible and targeted to the lives of people.

CORE VALUES

1.      Preaching in the context of worship is a special means of ministering God's Word to people.

2.      It always needs to be faithful to the actual text of the Bible and to the intent of the Holy Spirit.

3.      It also must address real needs in the lives of those who meet together in a particular worship service.

4.      It must be adapted to the capacities of the audience, including children.

5.      It should aim to be instructive, practical and persuasive.

6.      It should always be dependent upon the Holy Spirit for effect - correspondingly, bathed in prayer.

7.      It should always be Christ-centred, grace-motivated, and gospel-saturated.

8.      It should be directed to the heart, not simply to the mind.

9.      Its final goal should be to see people come to know Christ and be changed into his likeness - that is, it should aim to be transformational and not simply instructional.

MISSION/PURPOSE

The purpose of Redeemer's Preaching Ministry is to provide a preaching ministry in the context of worship that brings the message of God's Word to the minds and hearts of people in a way that leads to change.
